COMPETITIVE EXHIBIT CLASSES

ANTIQUE

ALL BISQUE

 

1. German doll. Must have some form of jointing and be less than 8 inches (excluding googlies).

2. Googlie. Must have true, exaggerated, side glancing eyes. Any doll of this type must be in this class.

 

BISQUE HEAD ON COMPOSITION BODY

 

3. Bisque Head on Composition Body made in America (Fulper, Taft, E. Reinhardt, CBD Co., etc.) or Japanese (Morimura, Nippon, etc.).

 

BODY STUDY

 

4. Body Study - Any doll body patented in the U.S. prior to 1910 (Kintzbach, Lacmann, Steuber, Dotter, Robinson, Goldsmith, etc.). Must be a complete doll and displayed undressed.

5. Solid hipped body, Sonneburg Taufling - so called Motcschmann type. Japanese inspired body construction with floating joints. Must be a complete doll and displayed undressed. Any head material (china, bisque, parian, wax or papier-mache/composition).

 

CHINA

 

6. Molded black or blonde-haired, late 19th century type with body of cloth printed with flags, flowers, letters, etc. Display undressed. Excludes open mouth with teeth.

7. All China, frozen Charlotte/Charlie, miniature 8" and under. May have molded clothing.

 

CLOTH - PRE 1925

 

8. American/European commercial; molded face, 1900-1925, includes Bing, Kathe Kruse (cloth only) and Kamkins, Steiff and Lenci.

 

COSTUMED BY OWNER

 

9. Pre 1925 Lady Doll. Doll must have been made prior to 1925. Costume must reflect the period of the manufacture of the doll being displayed or of the specific historical period designated. Historical costumes should be accompanied by documentation, i.e. photograph. All fabrics and trim used should be of the specified period or of the correct fiber content, pattern, scale and colors. Correct construction techniques should be followed and care in proper fit stressed. The entire costume, all underwear, shoes where applicable, stockings, and any other accessories must be the work of the exhibitor and must be removable. Accessories (only two) should be securely attached to the doll or the costume. Accessories may be a fan, parasol, cane, etc. Only the single costume will be judged. Costume will be judged on style, fit, workmanship, fabric selection, historical accuracy, and appropriateness to the doll or theme.

 

DOLL WITH WARDROBE - Pre 1925

 

10. Adult doll, any material. Wardrobe must be contemporary with the doll, whether commercially produced or homemade. May be original wardrobe or a wardrobe that has been assembled for the doll, including pertinent accessories. Original presentation container may be included, i.e. trunk or basket. It is the exhibitor's responsibility to secure items with the display. On a separate sheet, please provide a list of all items to be included in your display when sending entry form. This is to ensure adequate display space.

11. Wardrobe made by owner for adult doll, any material. Wardrobe must be made by owner with the clothes made in a fashion suitable to the doll and its period. All fabrics and trim used should be of the correct fiber content, pattern, scale and colors. Correct construction techniques should be followed and care in proper fit stressed. Accessories may be assembled for doll or made by owner, including a presentation container. It is the exhibitor's responsibility to secure items within the display. On a separate sheet, please provide a list of all items to be included in your display when sending entry form. This is to ensure adequate display space.

 

FRENCH DOLL WITH BISQUE HEAD

 

12. French Fashion type (poupee) with bisque head on original body type of any material including leather, cloth, wood, etc., displayed dressed with period clothing.

13. French Child doll (bebe) with closed mouth (excluding character faces). Please include 3x5 card indicating markings if any are found (to be displayed with doll).

 

GERMAN DOLL WITH BISQUE HEAD

 

14. Child marked J.D.K., Simon & Halbig (alone or in combination with any other maker's mark), Kestner or known number/alphabet series for this maker.

15. Child marked Armand Marseille or A & M.

16. Baby with glass eyes and molded or painted hair. Must have bent or non-supporting legs.

 

HALF DOLL - Known as Pincushion-type

 

17. Bust only. Nude or molded bodice. Special features such as wig, moveable arms, glass eyes, swivel neck, etc. Any of this type must be in this class.

18. Complete, original, factory assemblage such as pincushion, brush, lamp, tea cozy, powder jar, etc. Bust must be attached to the assembly, not molded as part of it. If used, legs must be separated from torso by cotton, wire, etc.

 

PAPER DOLL - May be cut or uncut.

 

19. Raphael Tuck. Prior to 1930. Any Tuck doll must be in this class.

20. Magazine sheet, before 1930.

 

PAPIER-MACHE/COMPOSITION

 

21. Milliner's model type, on typical body. May have special features such as a partial wig, glass eyes, molded or painted decorations, etc.

22. American, glass or painted eyes, molded hair only, such as Judge & Early, Lerch, Greiner or other of this type, marked or unmarked.

 

PARIAN/TINTED BISQUE

 

23. Decorated, painted or glass eyes. Molded or applied special features on hair or shoulders, such as ruffles, tassels, flowers, snoods, etc., must be painted in contrast to surroundings. Includes men and boy with shirt fronts, etc. Excludes bonnets and hats.

 

WOODEN

 

24. Springfield, Joel Ellis, Mason-Taylor and others of this type. Any doll of this type must be in this class.

25. Schoenhut child with wig.

 

MODERN

BISQUE DOLL - Nancy Ann Storybook.

 

26. May or may not have strung legs, babies excluded.

 

CLOTH DOLL - AFTER 1925, CELEBRITIES EXCLUDED

 

27. English, 1920-1950, including Chad Valley, Norah Wellings, Liberty of London, etc.

28. Lenci child over 14 inches, 1925-1950, including baby, excluding celebrities.

29. Kathe Kruse Cloth Doll after 1925, 15 inches and under.

 

COMPOSITION DOLL - Celebrity, Advertising, Comic Dolls Excluded

 

30. Alexander McGuffey Ana, Kate Greenaway, Flora McFlimsey.

31. Bye-Lo Baby, marked.

32. Effanbee Patsy. 14", marked. Entire doll must be made of composition.

33. Effanbee marked Little Lady or Ann Shirley, American Children excluded.

34. Mary Hoyer marked and unmarked.

 

COSTUMED AND CREATED BY OWNER OR EXHIBITOR

 

35. Costumed by Owner to fit convention theme. Costume will be judged for its suitability to the doll. Costume must be complete in every detail, including undergarments, shoes, and accessories. All handmade items must be made by the exhibitor with the exception of shoes.

36. Created by Exhibitor - Special doll pertaining to convention theme. Entire doll, clothing, accessories, shoes, etc. must be made by the exhibitor. Doll will be judged on design, craftsmanship, originality, and creativity. Reproductions excluded.

37. Alexander Cisette, 10 to eleven inches, 1957-1973, must have bent knees, includes Portrette Series.

38. Arranbee Nanette and Nancy Lee, over 14 inches.

39. Ballerina, 1949-1960, excluding Alexander and celebrities.

40. Ideal Toni, marked P92, P93 or P94.

41. Terri Lee, 16 inches, marked "Pat. Pending" or "Terri Lee", other members of Terri Lee family excluded.

42. Vogue Ginny, painted eyes, molded hair with wig, 1948-1950.

43. Vogue Ginny, head turning walker.

44. Single action figure with molded accessory/accessories.
